Pet-friendly chalets at Little Switzerland Resort get tails wagging

JOHANNESBURG, 5 August 2019 – Dream Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that Little Switzerland Resort in the Northern Drakensberg, KwaZulu Natal, will now accommodate pets in two of their self-catering chalets.

The mixed-use accommodation group took ownership of the Little Switzerland property in 2018. The resort offers spectacular views of the Amphitheatre and has been operating since 1989.

Says Gerhard Van Zyl , General Manager of Little Switzerland: “We are excited to make the Drakensberg accessible for those longing to bring their fur-babies with them on their local holidays.

“Like us humans, our pets long for adventure too, and its the perfect place to let them stretch their legs and discover new and exciting sights, sounds and smells out here in the fresh mountain air,” he adds.

Since Little Switzerland is a family-friendly resort, Van Zyl admits that it felt right for them to open their doors to all members of the family. He says: “We wanted to make it easier for our guests who find it incredibly difficult to leave their loyal companions behind. A holiday can be so much more rewarding and memorable when you get to take them along for the ride.”

With the two pet-friendly chalets, Van Zyl says they still aim to “maintain Little Switzerland’s welcoming atmosphere, and implement our one-guest service approach, where each and every guest and their furry friends are offered a high level of personalised service”.

Currently, small to medium-sized dogs can be accommodated only, with requests for birds and other types of small pets to be managed on an individual basis. “As a courtesy to other visitors, there are a few extra rules for our dedicated pet-loving guests,” adds Van Zyl.

Owners are responsible for bringing their dogs bedding, treats and favourite toys, and must always keep them on a leash when out walking around the property. Little Switzerland features several hiking trails two nearby dams, which guests can explore with their pets, however, animals are not permitted in the restaurant, on the main patio, at the pool or in other main activity areas.

“The chalets come with two bedrooms and are fully-equipped for self-catering. Guests can sprawl out from snout to tail and make themselves right at home with their canine companions,” Van Zyl explains.

Each pet-friendly chalet also features an outdoor braai (BBQ) and seating area, an indoor fireplace, a TV with selected channels, a lounge area, private patio and two bathrooms.

“As is the rule with all our guests, we will not allow aggressive behaviour on the premises, nor will we allow excessive barkers, although, we do understand that staying at Little Switzerland can be incredibly enthralling and our guests do need to express themselves from time to time,” he adds.

Apart from the two pet-friendly units, the property has 22 additional self-catering chalets and en-suite hotel rooms, which range from luxury Executive Suites and Honeymoon Suites, to Standard Rooms and Standard Family Rooms.
