AVAILABLE ACTIVITIES

Fill the Day, or Don't

Everything at the resort is run from reception and most of it needs booking a day ahead, which is worth knowing before you arrive. Activities are weather dependent and subject to availability, so the mountain has the final word. Beyond the gate the pass itself is the attraction, with tea and wine estates within a kilometre or two, a nine hole golf course down in the valley, climbing routes across the Cederberg and, for a few months each year, a flower season that changes the colour of the whole region.

Archery

Supervised sessions on the resort's own range, with fifteen standard bows supplied and an instructor walking you through holding the bow, aiming and firing at a static target. Suitable from about eight years old, and no experience is needed to take part.
Booking: Booked at reception, per person fee

Air Golf (Disc Golf)

Air Golf (Disc Golf), played on the lawns above the valley. You throw a flighted disc down the fairway and finish by landing it in a chain-draped basket, fewest throws wins. No clubs, no handicap, and the Cederberg stands behind every hole.
Booking: Booked at reception

Mini Golf

A nine hole mini golf course laid out through the resort's gardens, easy enough for small children and competitive enough to settle an argument. It is the most booked activity here and the one the Dream Xplorers reward ladder starts with.
Booking: Booked at reception, per person fee

Walking and Hiking Trails

Trails lead straight out from the resort into the fynbos along the top of the pass, with open landscape, big views back over Citrusdal and no gate to drive through first. Walk them at your own pace and tell reception which way you are heading.
Booking: No booking required

Remote Control Car Racing

Radio controlled cars run on a track at the resort, which turns out to hold the attention of adults for considerably longer than anyone expects. It is a good filler between a late breakfast and an afternoon at the pool.
Booking: Booked at reception

Painting

A guided painting session run at the resort, added to the activity list recently and aimed at guests who would rather spend an afternoon making something than climbing something. Ask at reception which days it is running while you are staying
Booking: Booked at reception

Games Room and Playground

A games room with a pool table, table tennis, boule and air hockey, and outside a playground with a jungle gym, trampolines positioned to look out over Citrusdal and the Olifants Valley, and an outdoor chess set on the lawn.
Booking: Open to all guests

Birdwatching

The fynbos along the top of the pass and the gardens around the resort both repay a slow morning with binoculars. Birdwatching is listed among the resort's free activities, so it costs nothing beyond getting up early enough to be out there for it.
Booking: No booking required

De Tol Farm Del

A working farm deli at the top of the pass serving freshly squeezed orange juice, good coffee, roosterkoek and flatbreads with proper toppings. It also sells farm produce, seasonal fruit and naturally fed Angus beef and lamb from the family farm, Bergendal.

ARTS AND CULTURE

The Cederberg Keeps Its Own Records

San rock art in the Cederberg Wilderness Area

The mountains behind the resort hold some of the most significant San rock art in southern Africa, painted into overhangs and shelters and still there after thousands of years. The range sits within the Cape Floral Kingdom and is a national heritage site, and Piekenierskloof works with CapeNature and other conservation groups on protecting both the cultural sites and the habitat around them. The nearest rock art sites are a full day out from the resort, so build a whole day around them.

Carmién’s tea shop is about a kilometre from the resort and pours rooibos alongside food and gin pairings under oak trees. Hebron, also at the top of Piekenierskloof Pass, runs combined wine and rooibos tastings with food.
