Birding with Faansie Peacock

Nogatsaa Pans and Ghoha Hills Savuti, Chobe, Botswana

Five nights of slow, deliberate birding through Chobe with Faansie Peacock and Sarel van der Westhuizen. Green Season brings breeding displays, vibrant plumage, seasonal visitors and the chance of something rare.

A bird's-eye view

Day 1 | Arrival at Nogatsaa Pans

Meet your birding hosts and guides for an introduction to the experience. Depending on arrival times, enjoy your first guided birding drive before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2 | Chobe Riverfront discovery

A full day on the Chobe Riverfront, exploring floodplains, riverbanks and wetlands and identifying species by call, movement, habitat and markings. A two-hour river cruise picks up summer waterbirds, raptors and migrants.

Day 3 | Birds of Nogatsaa Pans

Morning and afternoon birding across the pans, woodlands and plains during peak activity, with time for photography, calls, behaviour and the finer detail a traditional safari tends to pass over.

Day 4 | Transfer to Ghoha Hills

A final morning birding activity and breakfast, then the transfer to Ghoha Hills, adding new species as the habitat changes. Settle in before an afternoon birding activity or leisure time.

Day 5 | Savuti Marsh

A half-day game drive into the Savuti Marsh, working the grasslands, woodlands and seasonal waterways for resident and migratory species alongside Chobe's larger wildlife.

Day 6 | Departure

One last morning birding experience, breakfast, and the road transfer from Ghoha Hills back to Kasane.

Sarel van der WesthuizenAn experienced safari guide, wildlife photographer and self-taught "bird whisperer" with 25 years in the field, specialising in avian calls, behaviour and migration patterns.

Three-night overview

Day 1 | Arrival and bush braai welcome

A traditional welcome and singing on arrival, afternoon high tea and orientation, then a game drive through the Nogatsaa ecosystems and sundowners. The evening is a bush braai: fire-cooked African cuisine, storytelling and interactive drumming.

Day 2 | Chobe Riverfront and boat cruise

An early rise with coffee and rusks, then a two to two-and-a-half hour game drive to the Riverfront with a waterhole stop en route. A two-hour river cruise is followed by a light safari lunch. Back at the lodge: sundowners on the deck, campfire drinks, a four-course dinner and stargazing with the rangers.

Day 3 | Guided safari and sundowners

A short drive into open vlei for a guided bush discovery of tracks, plants and birdlife, then bush brunch. The afternoon holds leisure time, African high tea, a 30-minute in-room spa treatment and sundowners at the campsite hide, closing with a farewell boma dinner.

Valid for bookings from 1 December 2026 – 31 March 2027. Shorter stays are welcome and all two-night stays include the Chobe Riverfront and boat cruise experience. Terms and conditions apply.
