Stick to your resolutions while on holiday…

Are you the type to kick back and relax while you’re on holiday or are you planning to spend your 2016 holiday getting fit? If you fall into the latter category this one’s for you. Here are Dream Hotels & Resorts’ top picks for staying in shape while you’re on holiday…

Sweating it out in Sea Point

Join all the beautiful people on the Sea Point Promenade, your very own open-air gym. Whether you like to cycle, run, rollerblade or walk, you’ll find yourself in picturesque surroundings; the fresh sea breeze on your face and in good company as this is a popular local haunt. Sea Point also has its very own outdoor gym! You can use a range of gym equipment and machines free of charge, all while soaking up the summer sun. If you’re staying at The Peninsula All- Suite-Hotel, start your work-out routine with a jog along the promenade and end it off with some stretching (or even yoga) on the green grass.

Mountain biking through Knysna

Packed to the brim with natural beauty, Knysna is the perfect place to get on a mountain bike and explore the stunning scenery this quirky Garden Route town has to offer. There are several different mountain biking routes available in and around Knysna, all with different lengths and levels of difficulty. For more information on the available mountain biking routes when staying at Oaklands on the Knoll, simply click here.

Take a hike at the Cradle of Humankind

Bring a pair of hiking boots when you stay at Mount Savannah Game Reserve, a 2000 hectare game farm located within the Cradle of Humankind. Pack a backpack (with enough water) and set off on one of the many hiking trails in the Magaliesburg mountains. With a total distance of 6.15km and rated “easy”, the Zebra Trail is definitely a good one to start with if you are not an experienced hiker.  For the more experienced hiker there is another route called the Krokodilberg Trail. This hiking trail clocks in at 11.5km and takes about five hours to complete. It costs R60 per person for a day pass and you can call 082 825 9205 to make a booking.

A river runs through it…

Staying at Stonehill River Lodge next to the Breede River? There are three onsite activities that can be leveraged to burn away those extra pounds. From numerous hiking trails and  mountain biking to a two-hour croc paddling trip down the Breede River on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Be sure to make a booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Time to relax…

Let’s face it, a relaxing holiday can be as good for the mind and soul as a month in the gym can be to the body. Sometimes we need to do as little as possible while being pampered and there’s no better place for this than Le Franschhoek hotel & spa. After treating yourself to a day at the onsite Camelot Spa, you can go and explore the surrounding countryside which offers excellent dining and wine tasting opportunities. If you do however feel the need for some exercise, you can also opt in for a game of tennis with your partner at the onsite tennis court.
