SA is even better (and cheaper) in autumn!
We’ve officially reached that time of year. You know, when there’s suddenly more month than money and no greater satisfaction than snapping up a good deal.
If you still have an appetite for a local holiday, fortunately, autumn is one of the cheapest travel seasons of the year. There’s also the benefit of fewer crowds, ample availability, and comfortable outdoor temperatures.
You can still have a great experience, even if you’re on a budget! Here are several recommendations for budget-conscious travellers:
Say ‘yes’ to the spa
Prepare your body for the colder months ahead by prompting relaxation and maintaining your health with a holiday centred on spa time. You’re guaranteed to discover ample deals this time of year, in addition to low-season accommodation rates.
Autumn is a great time of year for bundling up in a fluffy rope and indulging in herbal teas, warming body wraps and hot stone massages. Slow down the frenzied pace of life at Camelot Spa at Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa. Or pamper your post-summer skin at our private Mangwanani Dream Spa at Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa.
Included facilities
We don’t all have access to a heated pool as the weather starts to cool. But that’s why affordable holiday locales like Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort tick the box during autumn. Their heated indoor pool and outdoor cold pool, are just two of the many facilities included in their rate. The complimentary Dream Xplorerer programme, aimed at little guests, is also available.
Avalon Springs also ticks all the right boxes during autumn with its outdoor thermal spring water pools available to guests. An overnight stay not within budget? Book a day visit instead.
At the budget-friendly Olifants River Lodge, near the Great Olifants River, you have the option to camp, caravan or bed down in one of the cosy cabins, chalets, or apartments. There is also plenty to do on-site once you’re there – fishing, hiking, biking, and putt-putt, to name a few.
The beach is always free!
Here in South Africa, beach time is never really off the cards as we approach winter. This is particularly true along the east coast where you can dip into the warm Indian Ocean at no extra cost!
Take advantage of low season rates at The Blue Marlin Hotel in Scottburgh or trek north to Ballito and check in at Zimbali Lodge. At the main beaches in these regions, lifeguards remain on duty. There’s also no need to compete with holidaymakers for a spot on the sand!
